And it only took me seven years to complete… Now available for online play and downloadable play (HTML and Flash format).
I got pretty overwhelmed by the tedium and the sheer amount of work involved in making the caps, animating stuff, coding everything, trying to make it flow correctly, etc. Actual translation is by Toby Normoyle. Content belongs to Konami, no infringement intended. Since it is clear by now we’ll never see an official version in English, somebody had to attempt it. There was a nice version on SHH but it was also incomplete, probably due to the huge amount of work involved…
I will probably say more later, but I will also get a downloadable version up very soon, and test it some more, and go through and probably fix up Cybil and andy a bit. I totally ignored Harry until recently, but the whole thing is up now.
If you have any interest in some of the weird story elements, you could enjoy this. If you hate text based games, this is probably not for you, though you might still want to go to gamefaqs and skim Toby’s translations if you’re interested in that. The game also has some rendered scenes that were not in the game.
I know it’s small, it’s at it’s full size though (on GBA). I will perhaps make the downloadable version twice as large.
If things are not loading, it’s probably a larger file with music or video, and you should wait until the flauros starts spinning before clicking on stuff. You click on the screen to get to the next screen. I was not able to code the puzzles from scratch, though I made a lame attempt at the butterfly one. Questions, commments, problems, feel free to post here.
The game is at http://alchemillahospital.net/playnovel/online-shpn/
ETA: Downloadable BETA version 0.2 is here:
http://www.alchemillahospital.net/dl/shpnenglishbeta.zip EXE in a ZIP file.
REMOVED FOR NOW because it was installing, but not creating the shortcut correctly, so you would have to browse for the index.html file. I will fix this and reupload in a day or two. This link now points to a smaller demo file, which is resizeable so you don’t have to squint your eyes as much. Longer versions will be uploaded to replace this as soon as I finish each of the chapters for each player.
This is BETA and not fully tested, and I know there are still problems with it. I am working on it as fast as I can.

I have been waiting for this forever! Thank you Amy!

Hey, it is great to have this playable…but the best way to play it would be on the actual GBA. Is there any way you could release a rom patch of this translation?
January 25th, 2013
If I knew how to make ROM patches, I would’ve done that six or seven years ago. I don’t have the faintest idea how to edit a ROM, but if I did, I’m sure that would have been easier than doing this, capping all images and re-coding everything from scratch. Though maybe it’s not an easy thing to do, ROM patching, because you’d think someone else would have attempted to do that since the translation has been available online for quite a few years now. And yet the only attempts to do an English SHPN have been in html…
Re-doing Cybil scenario right now, some problems here and there…

As a long time Silent Hill fan I extend my thanks to you. Thank you so much.

Glad some people enjoyed it, though it’s in a terrible, half-finished state right now (I mean the coding, only missing a few lines of text here and there).

Thanks for your effort and dedication, thank you very much! =D

It has a way to go as you say but its a valiant struggle never the less. No one else was going to do it. Even half-finished your work is commendable! Now I’m off to continue enjoying it. Again thank you.
January 25th, 2013
Yeah, that’s what it looked like: no one else was gonna do it, so I drank a lot of coffee and finished it myself, lol…
Glad you liked it though. I am still ironing out some problems, esp the Cybil scenario right now.
I just wish someone, somewhere, would come through with info on the other Andy parts. Just because I’m curious.

This an English translation coded in Flash of an official Game Boy Advance game based on Silent Hill 1. The actual game was only in Japanese, and only released in Japan. This was made to re-create the experience for those who cannot read Japanese.

I just happened to stumble upon this and am amazed at your work. My only question is that what emulator will I need. Thanks. for all your hard work and for not giving up.

@Henry: This is not a ROM, so you don’t need an emulator. For now it plays in a browser.

Thank you so much for all the hard work!

I’m so excited to try this. At least… I would if my computer could handle something like this. It can barely handle Paint at the moment.
Thank you all so much! The fans really appreciate being able to study this fascinating game!
