Some of you might remember that there were some problems with the Lisa voice over in the PC version of Silent Hill 3. Thessaly Lerner, Lisa’s voice in SH1, was not compensated for use of her voice in SH3 and was awarded a small settlement. Her voice was removed.
Now it’s happening again. (Well, perhaps not with Thessaly Lerner). Guy Cihi apparently doesn’t want his voice or motion capture used without compensation (which, you know, is understandable), and apparently Konami is not wanting to pay its VAs all over again for the rerelease.
“It would appear Konami is seeking to avoid further liability by changing the voice in their latest re-use of the SH2 materials. However, if any of my mocap appears in the new release, Konami will be liable for unauthorized reuse of my performance.”

Why can’t Konami do the right thing and just pay the actors to re-use their work?
This is penny-pinching at its worst.

Yeah, I hope they straighten this out. I just can’t imagine SH with different voice actors. It’s part of what makes the character, and I would be afraid of how that could change things.

They’ll still have to fork out money on the new voice actors, so why not just pay all the old ones again? It’s still going to cost them money.

Yeah, this stuff isn’t making a whole lot of sense to me.
