FLYING GHOULS: These are even hard to kill with a gun, they move so fast. But if you can’t shoot ‘em, get out your pipe and run onto a porch, doorway, or any such close quarters. Or even back against a wall. This seriously tilts the odds in your favor, since the ghoul must stop flying and walk to get at you. This makes it a much easier target. After you clock it one, it will slow down even more. Continue beating the shit out of it until you’re sure it is dead. These show up only in the open-air town areas, and have a meaner-looking version in the nighttime Silent Hill areas.

DOGS: Simple to kill with a gun, the dogs aren’t much fun to kill with a pipe. When it jumps at you, start swinging and pray you make contact. It will take about three blows, plus a stomp or hit while it’s down. These are mostly in the outdoor areas and there are meaner-looking dogs in the nighttime areas.

MUMBLERS: These are some creepy little characters. These won’t back off like flying ghouls or dogs, they will instead start cutting you or chewing on your knees(!). There’s no real plan of action if you’re sans gun, so just start swinging that pipe like a madman when one’s near.

ROACHES: Raid… It kills bugs dead. Guns or pipes work also. Most of the time it’s best just to ignore them and run.
SEWER MONSTERS: The main sewer monsters look a bit like praying mantises on steroids. They’re pretty strong, I advise you to get out a gun for these. Hand to hand combat doesn’t work too well. In the very last sewer level, you will see other sewer monsters. These are a brownish color and have big claws. To tell you the truth, I’ve never even tried to kill one, because you can outrun them so easily. The thing attacking Kaufman looks like one of these I think.

BEAR DEMONS: Quick and powerful fellows. Avoid them if possible. Mostly in Central Silent Hill around the Hospital and Antique shop areas, also in Resort and lighthouse areas.

NURSES: They like to appear in groups, especially near the end of the game. A shotgunis best for more than one.

DOCTOR: They can often be avoided, but otherwise you’ll have to shoot them. Several handguns bullets or a couple of shots from your shotgun. They have knives, you probably don’t want to get too close.

GHOST ZOMBIES: These are transparent, pitch black versions of the mumblers in the school. They’re pretty fiesty, too. They appear toward the very end of the game, esp. on hard mode. Very hard to see! After getting the Aratron key, watch out. They appear all over the place. If you hear the radio and can’t see anything, it’s best to just shoot now, ask questions later.

BLACK BABY GHOSTS cute squeaking things. In the library, among other places, these creeps may startle you. You can’t hurt them and they can’t hurt you, but your radio will start making noise when one is near.
PALE BABY GHOSTS These were in an old trailer for the game, but I don’t think they were in any final versions.
