A post over on silenthillcommunity made me remember that I meant to do a sort of listing/tutorial on skinning stuff in SH4. I’ve posted on which programs to use, but SH4 can be a pain because it’s hard to find the models you’re looking for. All the games have some issues like this, so SH4 will be the first one that I really address and try to explain here.
The problem with SH4 is that it’s less organized than the previous game files were. There’s just a bunch of *.bin files in a data folder. You can open these with the texture explorer.
Most people are most interested in the character skins, so I’ll start there:
Characters:
- AND… Files starting with “AND” are Andrew’s textures.
- CY… are Cynthia. Anything with “ZK” refers to bloody/dead textures.
- EI… is Eileen.
- EOS… is Eileen’s alternate costume.
- HS12 contains the big hospital head.
- CHI.,. little Walter
- JANK… Frank
- KL1/2… Walter
- KL3… Dead walter
- KMNK… Henry haunting
- RICH..Richard
- TW…. neighbors and people on the streets
- SNAP… All the still pictures of memos and stuff like that
- USABALLBIN… Robbie balloon
- PHE… hauntings
Levels:
- BD… building world
- FR… forest world
- HS… hospital
- ST… is all the spiral staircase stuff.
- SB… subway world
- IE.. apartment world
- LS.. end area
- RL… Henry’s room and Eileen’s bedroom and some stuff out the window

Helps a lot, thanks!
