SH4 Texture Modding

A post over on silenthillcommunity made me remember that I meant to do a sort of listing/tutorial on skinning stuff in SH4. I’ve posted on which programs to use, but SH4 can be a pain because it’s hard to find the models you’re looking for. All the games have some issues like this, so SH4 will be the first one that I really address and try to explain here.

The problem with SH4 is that it’s less organized than the previous game files were. There’s just a bunch of *.bin files in a data folder. You can open these with the texture explorer.

Most people are most interested in the character skins, so I’ll start there:

Characters:

  • AND… Files starting with “AND” are Andrew’s textures.
  • CY… are Cynthia. Anything with “ZK” refers to bloody/dead textures.
  • EI… is Eileen.
  • EOS… is Eileen’s alternate costume.
  • HS12 contains the big hospital head.
  • CHI.,. little Walter
  • JANK… Frank
  • KL1/2… Walter
  • KL3… Dead walter
  • KMNK… Henry haunting
  • RICH..Richard
  • TW…. neighbors and people on the streets
  • SNAP… All the still pictures of memos and stuff like that
  • USABALLBIN… Robbie balloon
  • PHE… hauntings

Levels:

  • BD… building world
  • FR… forest world
  • HS… hospital
  • ST… is all the spiral staircase stuff.
  • SB… subway world
  • IE.. apartment world
  • LS.. end area
  • RL… Henry’s room and Eileen’s bedroom and some stuff out the window
